Almac Sciences provides manufacturing solutions that utilise biocatalysis to shorten development timelines irrespective of scale and to improve cost effectiveness of chiral API and chiral intermediate supply.

We enable the manufacture of products in the most appropriate assets for our customers …anywhere in the world.
Our range is from milligramme R & D to tonne scale cGMP manufacture.

Our clients have the choice of using either commercially available enzymes or accessing our enzyme discovery programmes. We make these enzymes available on clear commercial terms that are independent of API value and clinical success.

Enzyme discovery

Our enzyme discovery programme is focused on areas of clear need, most specifically biocatalysts to supply chiral alcohols at any scale.

We discover, immobilise and activate carbonyl reductases and hydrolases.

Our capabilities range from enzyme discovery: extraction of gene sequence from commercially available microbes; gene amplification; gene cloning into expression vectors; whole cell fermentation; isolation of enzyme and use in biocatalysis.

We have a wide range of carbonyl reductase enzyme products which demonstrate a broad range of substrate selectivity.

Separation Services

We have a range of separation science services:

• Crystallisation where we provide screening, process development and scale up services with particular focus on diastereomeric resolution, conglomerate entrainment and product purification. We have specialist expertise in the successful modification of previously troublesome crystallisations and resolutions which have been challenging at scale. Our knowledge of the physico-chemical characteristics, gained through generation of phase diagrams, enables us to understand the solid solution behaviour and crystal forms to ultimately deliver enhanced volume productivity and yields.
• Bioresolution where we have access to a broad range of commercially available hydrolases.
• Chromatography where we provide normal, reverse, chiral phase and ion exchange techniques from milligram scale in addition to Flash chromatography for pre-clinical and clinical purifications.
